Successful person… What does it mean for me? Is it Steve Jobs, well known globally or my mom who enjoys her profession, teaching children? Is it a person who earns a lot of money or a person who spends his last coin for charity? Looking through the dictionary, we find such a definition:
successful – having achieved a lot, become popular, and/or made a lot of money.
Steve Jobs
So, it is about Steve Jobs. Did he become popular? Yes, he is. Every scholar dreams to have a device with prefix I and knows who is the creator of these things. We can meet them everywhere – at schools, in supermarkets, in airplanes. They became the most stylish and functional things in the world. Even small children ask Santa Claus to bring them iPhones as a Christmas present.
Did he make a lot of money? Surely yes, he was in the list of the wealthiest ones. So, Steve Jobs is absolutely suitable for the dictionary’s explanation.
A key to success for everyone
But I must admit that it would be unnatural and strange if every person in the world were rich and famous. Moreover, I am sure that not every person aims at being such a man or woman. And I think it is very important for a person to be satisfied with his own life, his own archives.
We are who we think we are.
Is it possible to say that every person who hasn’t become popular or made a huge sum of money is unsuccessful? Of course, not. We can’t measure success in coins or “likes” in the internet. Moreover success is not the final point, just like Winston Churchill said:
Success in not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
